Árvores
2018
oMuseu, Porto, Portugal
The trees at the centre of the work were gathered in Pedrógão Grande, the site of one of the most devastating wildfires in Portugal in the summer of 2017. Painted and suspended from the ceiling, these scorched forms hover above five mirrors placed on the floor, each tilted to catch and return the image of the roots.
This dialogue between the trees and their reflections becomes a quiet but insistent reminder of our complicity in environmental catastrophe, and of the way its consequences echo far beyond the sites where the damage first occurs.
