Volta ás Origens by Roberto Otero Gomez

February - April 2020
Estação Viva Gallery, Portugal

Roberto Otero Gomez is a Spanish artist whose practice probes the terrain of collective memory, tracing how political and social forces intersect with the contours of his own lived experience.

In Volta ás Origens, Otero Gomez turns to the long afterlife of repressive regimes, examining how sustained exposure to authoritarian structures imprints itself on individuals and communities alike. The work brings into focus the ways in which these entrenched ideologies persist, often quietly, in the fabric of contemporary cultural identities. In doing so, it invites viewers to engage with the unresolved shadows of history and to consider how they continue to script our shared narratives in the present.
